Three men. Three reasons. All of them rational.
Daniel, 28. Not ready for kids, and won't be for a while.
Marcus, 36. About to start TRT and learned what fertility means.
James, 42. His partner is older and they're already trying.
Whole thing, from your home.
HOW FREEZING ACTUALLY WORKS
At minus 196 degrees Celsius, biology stops.
If you're going to commit a sample to a tank for years, it's worth knowing what happens to it. Here's the short version.
The temperature where biology pauses.
Liquid nitrogen sits at minus 196 degrees Celsius. At that temperature, the chemical reactions that make cells age, fragment, or break down effectively stop.
Why sperm survive freezing?
Sperm are small, low-water cells, which means they handle freezing better than most tissue. With cryoprotectants added before freezing, the water inside each cell vitrifies — turns to glass — rather than crystallising. Crystallisation damages tissue. Vitrification protects it.
How long samples stay viable.
Pregnancies have been recorded from sperm stored for more than 25 years. The clinical literature shows no known expiry for a properly preserved frozen sample. The limit, if there is one, is longer than most lifetimes.
What happens at the lab?
Your sample is processed in a CLIA-certified, high-complexity accredited laboratory in the United States. It's analysed, prepared with cryoprotectants, vitrified, and stored in dedicated cryogenic tanks with continuous temperature monitoring.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does $1 actually pay for today?
The first year of cryopreservation, in full. Plus a window to cancel for any reason and get it back. 7 days in the US, 14 days in the UK. Nothing ships and nothing is tested until that window closes.
What if I cancel inside the cancellation window?
You get a full refund of the enrolment payment, no questions asked. Email hello@sapyen.co from the email you signed up with, or use the in-app cancel option. After the window closes, the rest of the programme balance is charged and you're in.
What if my sample can't be frozen?
The cryopreservation fee covering the 6 years of storage is refunded, as set out in the agreement.
Who actually stores my sample?
A specialist tissue storage facility, not Sapyen. We're the administrator that runs the programme and handles your account. Your sample is physically held by an FDA-registered facility in the US, or an HFEA-licensed centre in the UK. We pay them upfront for the full 6 years on day one, so your sample stays paid for even if our circumstances change. You'll be told which facility holds your sample once storage begins, and you can ask us at any time.
What happens after 6 years of storage?
It's up to you. We'll send renewal reminders starting 6 months before your storage ends. You can renew at the rate we're offering at the time, transfer your sample to another clinic, or end storage. There's no auto-renewal and no surprise charge. If you don't respond, your sample is treated as abandoned after a 30-day grace period.
